What we install
Single rods on wall or ceiling brackets, with center supports on wide windows so the rod doesn't sag.
A sheer in front of a blackout or lined panel — daylight by day, a dark bedroom at night.
Floor-to-ceiling tracks for a gallery look, including poured-concrete ceilings in newer towers.
Panels hung on the new hardware, then checked: they open, close and clear the floor.
NYC walls
A rod is pulled on every time the curtains open. In New York the wall above a window can be almost anything, so we check it before choosing the hardware.
| Drywall | Brackets into a stud or header where possible, heavy-duty anchors where not. |
|---|---|
| Prewar plaster | Over lath, block or brick. We find what's behind it so the plaster doesn't crack around the hole. |
| Brick | Masonry bits and anchors set in the brick, not the crumbly mortar joint. |
| Poured concrete | Concrete-rated anchors on walls and ceilings, within the building's drilling rules. Concrete mounting |
| Steel lintel | Common right above prewar windows. We set the rod above it or on the ceiling instead of fighting the steel. |
Placement
The same curtains can make a window look taller and wider — or smaller. These are the starting points we use, adjusted to your room. The full guide

Questions
A curtain rod or track is $100 up to 8 ft on drywall or brick and $150 on poured concrete, on a wall or a ceiling. Longer rods and tracks are priced per mounting bracket — $30 on drywall or brick, $50 on concrete — never less than $100 or $150. The installer counts the brackets with you before starting.
Usually 4 to 6 inches above the window frame, or higher — up to just below the ceiling or crown molding — to make the window look taller. In many prewar buildings a steel lintel sits right above the window, which can decide the height. We mark the line with you before drilling.
Typically 6 to 12 inches on each side, so open panels stack against the wall instead of covering the glass. Heavy lined or blackout panels need more room; we check the stack with you before marking the brackets.
Yes. Prewar plaster may sit over wood lath, terra-cotta block or brick, and each needs a different anchor. We find what's behind the plaster before drilling and use masonry anchors in brick, so the rod holds without cracking the wall.
Yes. Ceiling tracks in poured concrete are common in newer NYC buildings. We drill with masonry bits and concrete-rated anchors, within the building's drilling rules — some buildings require approval first. It is $150 per track up to 8 ft.
Yes. Have the panels, rings or hooks ready and we hang them on the new rods or tracks during the same visit, then check that they open, close and clear the floor.
We install the rods, tracks and curtains you've ordered, and we bring the anchors and fasteners for your wall. If you haven't ordered yet, send photos of the window and we'll tell you what length and type we'd recommend.
It depends on the building, not the size of the job — many co-ops and condos want a certificate of insurance for any contractor. ArtFixPro carries $5 million in liability coverage and workers' compensation; send the building's requirements when you book and we'll send the COI.
Same-day appointments are often possible, with no extra charge for same-day. Choose today's date when you book and we'll confirm the time with you by phone or text.
If something is wrong with our installation work within 90 days, we come back and fix it at no additional charge.
